Cameras

The camera is one of the most important tools for both birders and photographers. Documentation is a must when encountering a rare bird. For photographers, it’s obviously a necessity to have equipment you can trust to get the best photos possible. Here are the cameras that we have reviewed.

Panasonic Lumix FZ80

The camera that we use most at Badgerland Birding is the Panasonic Lumix FZ80. This camera is fantastic for birding and taking quick pictures. It is point and shoot style but has other features to mess around with and can actually take a pretty quality photo for the relatively low price. One of the best things about this camera is the incredible zoom. A lot of times this camera is superior to binoculars in terms of magnifying a target.

Overall, this camera is fantastic for beginning birders, birding on the go, and bird documentation. The photos taken by this camera are surprisingly good, but obviously not on the same level as more upscale cameras. The video quality is superb for the price of the camera and we are quite happy with ours.
